For players aged 16-19, our full-time football and education programme runs for 36 weeks between September and July. The dual programme offers an approx 50% split between a BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in sport in the classroom and training and match days. (view video here).

Below are several frequent questions and answers that may help you gather the relevant information about our full time football and education programme.
What is the Education Programme ? .... We offer a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport. It's duration is over 2 years. The second year is offered on successful completion of the 1st year by passing the necessary module assignments.
What is the qualification equal to ? .... This is intended as an Applied General qualification, equivalent in size to three A Levels. It is a two-year, full-time course that meets entry requirements in its own right for learners who want to progress to higher education courses in sport before entering employment.
Is this qualification recognised by universities ? .... Yes, UCAS has agreed that these BTEC Nationals will continue to meet higher education requirements. Please go to the UCAS website for full details of points allocated.
What type of careers could these qualifications lead to ? .... Players/students can progress to University, Physiotherapy, Coaching, Sports Science, Professional Footballer etc.
What GCSE's are required to enter the programme ? .... At the end of year 11 the school leavers are required to have gained 5 GCSE's grade A-C including Math and English. There is a possible consideration for entry if a student has not achieved the grades subject to the approval of the education provider and the students willingness to undertake these subjects during college time, but this is not guaranteed.
How would you describe the football programme ? .... In one word TOUGH ! .... Players train every day. The training includes fitness, monitoring of physical progression and technical / tactical development.
How many teams or squads are there ? .... In season 2016/17 there were 4 squads. An under 18 YDS squad. Two Under 18 'Floodlight' squads and an Under 19 National Alliance squad. All these squads underpin Stockport County's Under 21 Development Squad .... To date 31 current or ex Academy players have represented this squad.
Do the squads play as the profootball academy ? .... No. All our squads play under the Stockport County Football Club name.
Is there a realistic pathway to 1st team football at Stockport County ? .... Yes, each season we have had academy players representing the 1st team ..... Read more HERE.
